What's with the ads?

A couple weeks ago, Jonny came home and asked me to do some quick research on Amazon's Affiliate program. He had a client who was interested in using it. "Just do a quick search and see what people are saying about it, their experiences with it, the success rate, etc." he told me.

I didn't know much anything about it beforehand, but I liked what I was reading as I poked around. Basically, a user signs up, uses their program to create links, puts them on their blog or website, and when readers click through and order something within 24 hours (anything - not just the product linked to), the user gets a small commission on it. "Wow," I thought, "I already link to Amazon pretty often - books, baby gear, other products I love, etc." I mentioned this thought to Jonny while I was relaying the results of my research. "So sign up," he said.

So, I have. What does that mean for you? Not much. Most of my linking habits will stay the same, but those links will now be embedded with a code to trace back to my account. You'll also start to see little boxes at the bottom of posts with products I love or that are related to the post you've just read. The great part of this is that I have total control over what gets posted, so you'll never get a randomly generated ad - you will always see products that I love, use, and personally recommend.

Are you someone who orders from Amazon frequently? I know I love my Kindle! And we order our dog food from them every month because there are no local vendors around here. (See what I did there?) If you're like us, consider coming to Musings and linking through to Amazon when you make orders. You'll help us pay for that dog food when you do! Have questions about what I use or recommend? Feel free to post them in the comments or send me an email and ask. I would love to share with you!
