Impress them upon your children...

Up 'til now, Gavrel hasn't been super interested in sitting for long periods of time to read books. There are a couple he likes, but overall he just hasn't wanted to sit still that long. In the last week or so, though, he's gotten a lot more patient and interested.

So I've been trying to read a couple of Bible stories to him before bed every night. It's our goal to eventually have family "Bible time" together, so this is a fun addition to our nightly prayer routine.

We have a great children's Bible called The Jesus Storybook Bible that I absolutely love, but lately I've been reading out of the The Beginner's Bible. The stories are just a little bit shorter, a little more direct, and aged a little bit younger. I love and highly recommend both of these books, but right now the latter is just a little bit more at Gav's patience level. And I'll accommodate Gav's patience level if it means he'll listen to Bible stories!

Of course, it's also kind of fun that this was my children's Bible when I was younger. The inside cover reads, in my own handwriting, "To: Katie. From: mom & dad. Date: Des. 25, 1991." My first grade self wasn't entirely sure how to spell December just yet. It's been updated a republished since then, but you can still find it in stores!

And no matter which version we're reading or how old it is, I love love LOVE that I can share these incredible stories with my Monkey Man. I always get a little bit of a thrill when I read to him about Jesus. I sincerely pray that he catches that thrill and feels the awe himself!
