As the Wedding Bells Ring

Don't you love meeting Jesus in worship? Don't you love when He teaches you something new, straight to your heart? There's really nothing I love more.

Last Sunday morning, Jonny and I were sitting in the front row at church (as we usually have been recently), and the congregation was singing "Beautiful" by Phil Wickham. As we came to the last lines of the final verse that say:
We'll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together as we sing
Suddenly, I clearly saw a picture of my own wedding day. I hear people say so often that they can barely remember their wedding day because it was all such a blur, but that's not the case for me. I was calm and well-rested on my wedding day, and I enjoyed every minute of it! Our ceremony was very carefully crafted so that each part was meaningful to us. Our families were there and happy to celebrate with us. All the details were taken care of. It was an exciting day.

The total princess in me enjoyed herself too! I loved getting dressed up, made-up, and done-up. I loved feeling pretty and taking lots of pictures. I loved being pampered (I'll freely admit to being thoroughly spoiled). And I loved the look on my Jonny's face as I came down the aisle.

All of these things and that feeling of being beautiful and admired came rushing back to me as I stood in church singing. And then my Jesus whispered to me, "That is how I see you. You are my beautiful bride, and I am enthralled with you! I am rejoicing over you! Come freely, beloved."

Let the king be enthralled by your beauty. -Psalm 45:11a
For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband - Christ. -2 Corinthians 11:2
The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves you. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. -Zephaniah 3:17
All of these promises washed over me as I held onto Jesus' words. I had gone into worship that morning feeling pretty empty; I didn't have a lot to give. But I love that our Shepherd is the one who restores our souls!

What has Jesus been teaching you recently? I would love to hear!
