Experiments in Diapering

I mentioned the other day that Gavrel's newest trick is peeing out of his diaper when he falls asleep on his tummy. Just his tummy - he can go 15 hours on his back with no leaking..

After the second time changing his sheets in two days, I decided I would head to the source for some solutions. Not that it's unreasonable to change his sheets once a day, I just don't have a dryer. That makes it difficult to change them any more frequently than that because they won't dry in time.

I started at the manufacturer's website, checking their recommendations for leaks, only to find that I was already doing everything they suggested. So I made the trek to our local cloth diaper store, Cutie Tooties. I had heard about it before, but I had never been to check it out (all our diapers were ordered online). It's a small shop, but boy did they have a lot packed in there! I told my husband when I got home that if I had all the money in the world to spend, I probably could havegone crazy in there! I'm especially in love with these.

The owner was also very nice and helpful. I was very impressed that she took the time to go through all the tricks for using what comes with the diapers - instead of trying to sell me something else. Unfortunately, I was already doing everything she suggested.

So, she suggested a hemp liner. She personally showed me everything she had, telling me about her own experience with them. She even pointed out the cheapest brand first. Again, I was so impressed that she wasn't trying to sell me anything AND I could tell she really knew and has tried everything she was selling. I went mostly to look, but her suggested solution was so cheap and she was so helpful that I decided to go for it. I bought one Punkin-Butt insert and one Swaddlebees insert (I swear, cloth diaper companies have the cutest names EVER), for a grand total of $12! She even gave me detailed washing instructions as I was checking out.

All in all, I was extremely impressed. I will definitely be going back, and I highly recommend all you Knoxville mamas check it out. Even if you're not a mama but know one who could use some cloth diapering accessories, pass the word on!

And I'll keep you posted on the results of our new hemp inserts. It might be a while - he doesn't always fall asleep on his tummy - but I'm hoping this will do it.
