Jon and I made a big decision about our parenting choices this week. We've decided that we are going to skip baby food with Gavrel, and just continue to nurse until he can eat enough finger food to start switching to that.

I know that this is kind of weird. It's definitely not mainstream, and a lot of people will probably think we're totally off our rockers. I've done some reading and research, and I think this will be a good choice for this child. I'm not going to try to convince anyone else to try to do the same thing, and I'm not going to say that I'm going to try this for all of our children in the future. I just see a happy, healthy, ahead-of-development, chubby, thriving little man who hasn't shown much interest in solid food yet, loves nursing, and is still in the 90th percentile - despite never once having a meal of anything other than breastmilk his whole 5 1/2 months. I have a hard time believing that he's lacking for anything. Again, this seems like a good option for this child.

So, we're going to give it a shot. I've been encouraged by the number of mommies who have told me that they inadvertently ended up doing this with their kids, simply because they didn't like baby food. I just look at it as letting Gav decide when he's interested in feeding himself. And if it doesn't work out, I won't be heartbroken. But I think it's worth a try, and I'll be sure to chronicle our progress as we go.

Welcome to our adventure!
